What is Smartdust (dust network)? |
|
Smartdust or a dust network is a subset of wireless sensor networks, which is made of MEMS deployed in a mesh topology with the intent of event detection. Brief History The miniaturisation trend in the semiconductor industry allowed the development
an all-in-one micro sized systems that has a microsensor, a processing unit (smart sensor), a microatuator, and a transmit unit. The concepts of smart dust was triggered by DARPA as a way to monitor the battle field. Smart dust UtilizationSmart dust (dust networks) is used when it is required to monitor an environment that can not be disturbed and requires proximity between the sensor and the event. Typical utilization is in operating rooms and patient monitoring.
